  • WHAT IS THE MISSION OF STUDY JAMS?

    Google Developers Study Jams is a series of an in-person study groups to support students taking online Udacity courses on Google developer technologies. These events are run by local Google Developer Groups or other developer meetups all over the world. This season, Feb 1st - May 1st, we are running Study Jams around the Udacity Android for Beginners course.

    The mission of Study Jams is to provide a supplement to the online course experience with a live community learning environment will support students in completing the course and achieving certification. The goal is to provide deeper understanding in the course material within a fun and collaborative community environment.

    Study Jams are an opportunity for students to receive free, in-person guidance and tutoring on the Udacity course in a fun classroom environment.

  • WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS TO JOIN A STUDY JAM?

    All are welcome to join a Study Jam, though students should first be sure to meet the course prerequisites and requirements. Here are the Udacity course requirements. This course is intended for beginners. Students with a higher level of programming experience, but want to get started on programming for Android Apps are also welcome. You will be expected to download Android Studio in order to follow along with the instructors throughout the course. Access to an Android device is helpful, but not required, to complete the final project. Please see Technology Requirements for using Udacity.

  • WHAT IS THE TIME COMMITMENT?

    The Android for Beginners takes approximately 30+ hours to complete. Study Jam sessions can take place in weekly sessions or in a weekend format. Study Jams may be implemented in a different format in your local GDG chapter. Check with your individual community for specific time commitments.

    We encourage students to attend all sessions to make the most of the Study Jam experience. Attendance at all Study Jam sessions will be required in order to receive a badge of completion.

    Emergency situations that lead to absences will be taken into account.

  • HOW DO I SIGN UP?
    1. Check out the event map to find a Study Jam happening near you. Click on the pin to register for your local Study Jam.
    2. Register for the Udacity Android for Beginners​ course by signing into Udacity, joining the Study Jam group, and browsing to the “Developing Android Apps: Android for Beginners” course by searching “Android Fun”. Then click the blue button “Access course materials”.
  • HOW MUCH DOES THE UDACITY COURSE COST?

    Study Jams follow the free version of the Udacity course. See above for how to enroll in the free Udacity Android Beginners course.

  • WHAT IF I ALREADY HAVE A UDACITY ACCOUNT/ENROLLED IN THE ANDROID FOR BEGINNERS COURSE?

    Great! Please still go ahead and register through the Study Jams enrollment link, so we know you are participating in the series.

  • WHAT HAPPENS AT A STUDY JAM?

    Study Jam sessions are designed around the Udacity course structure, with a weekly session following each lesson (4 lessons), plus two to three additional weeks for completing and sharing course final projects. Students are expected to come to the Study Jam sessions having completed that week’s Udacity lesson online, so that the Study Jam time may be used to review key concepts, address questions, and work on individual projects.

    Study Jam sessions are led by facilitators who are certified in the Udacity Android for Beginners course and adjust teaching to the students in the class.

    If students attend all classes and finish the coursework, they will receive a completion badge from their local GDG chapter.

  • WHAT ARE MY NEXT STEPS AFTER THIS COURSE?

    Study Jam participants who complete the entire course and submit a final project to their local GDG chapter are eligible for a 12% discount for Udacity’s Android Nanodegree. Participants can also continue to attend GDG events.
